Hepatic Transplant – Interventional Radiology Fellowship: Max Hospital, Saket, New Delhi

Department Introduction:

The Interventional Radiology (IR) department at Max Super Speciality hospital Saket conducts a variety of procedures related to liver transplant, hepatology, gastroenterology, oncology, nephrology etc.  These include a wide variety of  basic and advanced interventions both non-vascular and vascular.

The Interventional Radiology department at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket is equipped with Bi-plane DSA unit, one fluoroscopy unit, two USG scanners and CT scanner. The department is fully digitized with Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS) which is integrated to the hospital information system (HIS) and CPRS.

Course Introduction

The course offers one year training in all the interventional radiology procedures with special focus on hepatic transplant- radiological interventions. Besides, there is ample exposure to other interventions in hepato-biliary system, nephrology, oncology and basic neurology. During their training the fellowship students are encouraged to actively participate in the procedures and get hands on experience as well. Students are actively involved in day to day work of the department including OPD consultations, history taking, physical examination, review of the imaging  and pre and post procedure management of the patient.

Course Objectives and activities

At the end of the course, the fellow student will be able to independently perform vascular and non-vascular procedures besides having acquired outstanding skills in patient selection, patient communication and counseling, pre and post procedure patient management and handling of complications.

The fellow will be assigned a research project within first two months of joining the course. The fellow is required to write case reports and original articles under supervision (at least one each by the end of the course).

The course includes emergency calls and night shifts to expose the fellow to emergencies in the interventional radiology.

Certification Details: A fellowship certificate will be awarded after successful completion of the training program.

Eligibility Criteria: MD Radiology or DNB Radiology or DMRD.

The candidate should be registered with MCI/State Medical Council. For International Candidates, MCI approval, Student visa, and FRRO approval will be required as per regulations.
