Course: DM Interventional Radiology
Duration: A three-year DM course in Interventional Radiology, followed by a two-year bond that can be completed at the same or different hospitals across the state. Admission is through the NEET Superspeciality examination.
Seats: 3 per year
Eligibility: MD/DNB Radiology
Examinations: Theory + Practical exams at the end of three years.
Thesis & Publications: Mandatory thesis submission and paper publication.
Fees: Approximately INR 1,25,700 per year
Stipend(No Tax):
- 1st Year: ₹96,000/month
- 2nd Year: ₹98,000/month
- 3rd Year: ₹1,00,000/month
Work Hours: The day starts with morning rounds, OPDs, interventional procedures, patient management, and ends with evening rounds. Emergencies at night demand an all-hands-on-deck approach, hence all three residents are usually there in the DSA during cases at night and holidays.
Accommodation: Provided by Institute.
Clinical Rotations & Responsibilities
The department follows a weekly rotation system between 3 residents ensuring exposure to all aspects of Interventional Radiology:
🔹 DSA (Digital Subtraction Angiography)- Siemens Artis Zee Biplane.
🔹 OPD and IPD References
🔹 Ward/ICU/Pre/Post-Op
At JJH, the spectrum of interventions is vast, covering “head-to-toe” procedures, including:
✅ Neurointerventions – Stroke thrombectomy, Aneurysm coiling, Flow Diversion, AVM embolization, dAVF embolization, Carotid Stenting
✅ Aortic- Thoracic and Abdominal Aortic Stent Graft
✅ Peripheral Vascular Interventions – Stenting, Angioplasties, Atherectomy, Thromboaspiration, Peripheral AVM Embolization
✅ Venous Interventions – Fistuloplasty, Central venous plasty, EVLA and Sclerotherapy for Varicose Vein and Slow flow malformations
✅ Hepatobiliary, Renal, Gastrointestinal Interventions– Biliary drainage, TIPS/DIPPS, PARTO, Aneurysm and bleeder Embolization
✅ Pre-Operative Tumor Embolization – Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma, Aneurysmal Bone Cyst
Non-Vascular Procedures like drainages and biopsies are performed by the Radiology Junior Residents. Exposure to onco-interventions is however limited.
As an advanced tertiary referral center, the department receives a high volume of complex cases. The JJH Interventional Radiology department is very supportive. From professor to radiographers and nursing staff, everyone contributes to a culture of respect, teamwork, and learning.
Mentorship & Guidance: The HOD is a renowned expert in neurointerventions, hence complex cases from across the state comes to JJH, ensuring exposure to the most cutting-edge techniques.
With three DM residents, an Associate Professor, and the HOD, the department maintains an intimate, high-impact training environment. Every resident is therefore deeply involved in every case, every decision, and every learning opportunity.
Learning Beyond the Classroom- Residents are encouraged to actively participate in all national interventional Radiology conferences. Presenting papers and posters are an integral part of the academic journey.
Pro: This is one of the new DM programs in the country which allows you to have an exposure to all neuro and body interventions under a single roof.
Cons: Oncointervention spectrum is limited.
